Presave Segments let fans sign up before a release and receive the track or album in their connected Spotify or YouTube Music account when you deliver it. You can set up the campaign before the final release link is available, then add it when the release is ready.
Before You Start
Make sure that:
- You have access to Presave Segments in the AE dashboard.
- Your brand has a Spotify and/or YouTube Music social app connected in AE Connect.
- You know whether you are presaving a track or an album.
Check Your App Permissions
Before inviting fans to connect, check the permissions for each service you plan to use.
Spotify
- Open AE Connect from the dashboard menu.
- Select the Spotify social app.
- Open Advanced Settings.
- Ensure that
user-library-modifyis included in the app permissions. - Save your changes.
YouTube Music
- Open AE Connect from the dashboard menu.
- Select the YouTube Music social app.
- Open Advanced Settings.
- Add
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.force-sslto the app permissions. - Save your changes.
Fans who connected before you added a new permission need to connect again before they can receive a presave.
Create the Presave Segment
- Go to Segments for your brand.
- Create a new segment.
- Select Presave from the segment type list.
- Give the segment a clear name, such as
Artist Name - Album Name Presave. - Save the segment.
Presave Segments are opt-in only. Fans must explicitly join the segment to receive the release.
Add a Presave Activity
- Open your new Presave Segment.
- Add a new activity.
- Choose Spotify or YouTube Music as the social app.
- Choose a presave activity for a track or album.
- Add the release name as the activity label.
- Save the activity.
You can save the activity even if you do not yet know the final Spotify or YouTube Music ID.
Add the Release Link or ID
When the release is ready, open the presave activity and add the release to the presave item field. You can paste either a full link or the service ID.
Examples:
Spotify track: https://open.spotify.com/track/6ZsVaTDPoRFCX9evH3x1U7
Spotify album: https://open.spotify.com/album/4X3LhfPfmdcMQblc5k11WC
YouTube Music track: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj4AaLSoric
YouTube Music album: https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mrhPFPp_YpIQKprf7k6cV1Rkvu1XlYtGo
Save the activity after adding the link or ID. The delivery button becomes available once AE has a valid release ID.
For YouTube Music, use an official music or art-track link where possible. This gives fans the best chance of seeing the release as music in YouTube Music.
Invite Fans to Sign Up
Promote your campaign as usual and guide fans through your AE Connect flow. A fan must:
- Connect the service you are using, such as Spotify or YouTube Music.
- Join the Presave Segment.
The presave activity page shows a message when no eligible members have joined yet. Once fans have connected and opted in, the activity is ready to deliver.
Deliver the Release
When the release is live and the release link or ID has been saved:
- Open the presave activity.
- Check that the number of signed-up members looks correct.
- Click Deliver track to members now or Deliver album to members now.
- Wait while AE processes the delivery.
You can keep the page open to see progress. When delivery is complete, the page confirms that the track or album has been delivered and provides a link to segment insights.
If you click deliver by mistake, select the cancellation link on the activity page. This stops delivery for members who have not yet been processed.
Common Questions
Why can I not click Deliver?
The activity needs a saved release ID first. Add a Spotify or YouTube Music link/ID and save the activity.
Why does the activity say no members have registered?
Fans must both connect the selected service and opt in to the Presave Segment.
Why did a fan not receive the release?
Ask the fan to reconnect the service, especially if you added the required app permission after they first connected.
